Review:

Seanan McGuire paints a world where people can go through doorways to enter a world that suits them. Mainly, this is young girls. And when those girls go back to the world they came from (our world), they are messed up! They are then sent to a type of rehab center (or so the parents think!). Nancy is sent to Miss West who tries to help the youngsters adjust to life again. A lot of it is trying to come to terms that they may never find their door.

Murders also happen at this place, it’s said to be a school. The school comes under threat when the murders happen and it’s a type of race to find out who is committing these crimes.

For a novella there is so much packed in! It’s a concise story and Seanan McGuire does a great job of suspending the reader’s disbelief. The world painted by each of the characters is heartbreaking and wonderful yet horrifying when you think about what the teens have gone through.

There is pretty decent diversity. Ace and trans representation in this book and it’s great to see. Sumi is amazing. The characters Seanan focuses on in this book are all great.

I just…I just love this book so much. This book acted as it’s own doorway for me because it came when I needed it. <3

May you get lost in a book,

Chrissy
