Review:

Setting

The narrative is 3rd person but switches in limited point of view between Alexa and Drew. The author makes it very clear whose perspective we’re diving into with each section. 3rd person limited perspective is one of my favorite points of view so I’m happy this book had it.  The place where this book takes place is in California with the setting changing from Berkeley to Los Angeles and takes place during modern times. The novel also felt modern. Both characters have successful and busy careers and as readers, we get to see how they navigate a relationship with one another.

Characters

Alexa felt like a fully fleshed out character with ambitions, great qualities, and flaws. She cares about people and she shows on the page. I felt like she was complex. Drew, at times, felt two dimensional and the stereotypical jock doctor type.  He works out a lot (through running and playing basketball), he’s a heartthrob among women, and he is a known player. He’s afraid of commitment but we don’t really get why he’s like that. It’s just kind of this thrown away thing that he works out because Alexa is amazing. However, a lot of his exes were amazing. So, I don’t really understand that. However, the chemist between Alexa and Drew was palpable on the page and I enjoyed their banter.

Also, Drew should be grateful to have Carlos as a friend! GRATEFUL!

Plot

I was so happy this was about a guy asking a girl to be his fake girlfriend at a wedding. It was a nice turnaround on this type of romance plot. Also, Alexa’s drive and the side plot about the program she wants to initiate in her city was awesome to see. However, all the rest was pretty typical for a romance novel. That’s not a bad thing at all, by the way! If you’re expecting miscommunication to be the main plot point, than you won’t be disappointed.

Overall

The Wedding Date hits all the sweet spots of a romance novel though it is a lot more tame in the hanky panky scenes than most romance novels I have read. The romance is sweet and the characters have obvious chemistry. I would recommend this to people who want to read something that is sweet and nice.

May you get lost in a book,

Chrissy
