The Fantasy Tropes: Book Tag

I was not tagged in this book tag but I saw it on the blog My Bookish Dream and wanted to give it a try.  I’m not sure who has been tagged and am horrible at tagging people in the first place. If you want to do this tag, please do and let me know so I can check out your answers.

rules:

1- mention the creator ( ones’e peculiar )

2- answer the questions

3- tag as many people as you like

4- HAVE FUN!

1. The Lost Princess – A book/series you lost interest in halfway through.

It’s not often I don’t continue a series. I have so many series I’m in the middle of (I will get to them one day!). But The Scorpion Rules, first in the Prisoners of Peace series, is one that didn’t live up to what i wanted.

2.The Knight in Shining Armour – A hyped book/series you were swept up by.

I first saw this book making its rounds on booktube and booktwitter. When I read it, I was hooked for sure. The twist on heroes and villains was nice and this is definitely one of those series I haven’t finished but am definitely interested in continuing.

3. The Wise Old Wizard – An author who amazes you with his/her writing.

Seanan McGuire – Whether she’s writing under her own name or her pseudonym, Mira Grant, I’ve been a fan of everything I’ve read of hers. I’m slowly making my way through her books and I’m loving it.

A. Lee Martinez – A humor fantasy/sci-fi writer. I’ve been a fan of his work for years since I’ve read Gil’s All Fright Diner. They’re funny and have a lot of heart to them.

There are many more writers that amaze me with their writing but those are the two that first pop up in my mind.

4. The Maiden in Distress – An undervalued character you wished had a bigger storyline.

A character I love in the Firekeeper series but I wish had more page time and a bigger storyline (that we get to see) is Sapphire. She’s a warrior and just so interesting to me. I would love to see a story through her eyes. (Granted, like many series, I haven’t finished this one yet….)

5. The Magical Sword –  A magical item/ability you wish authors used less.

The first thought that came to my mind was “Magical healing abilities without a cost” but I can’t really remember where I’ve read that…O_O

6. The Mindless Villain – A phrase you cannot help but roll your eyes at.

They let out a breath they didn’t know the were holding.

….It’s just so….overused….

7. The Untamed Dragon –  A magical creature you wish you had as a pet.

Probably a griffin. When I first got into Magic the Gathering, I had a griffin deck….and I want one as a pet.

8.  The Chosen One – A book/series you will always root for.

I read the Second Sons trilogy by Jennifer Fallon over ten years ago and it was one of the first fantasy books that didn’t have a big magic system. (It doesn’t really have any magic system which was also a first for me.) It was just done so well, I thought, and its stuck with me all these years as being just a solid trilogy. I remember loving the plot and the characters.

By all means, if you are interested, please do the tag! Let me know and send me a link if you do. 🙂 Would love to see other people’s responses to this.

May you get lost in a book,

Chrissy
