Blog Tour: Crossing In Time by D.L. Orton Review

Summary (taken from the back of the book):

When offered a one-way trip to the past, Isabel sacrifices everything for a chance to change the rapidly deteriorating present–and see her murdered lover one last time. When she arrives twenty years in the past, buck naked and mortally wounded, she has 24 hours to convince a stunned but enraptured nineteen-year-old to change their future. Definitely easier said than done, as success means losing him to a brainy, smart-mouthed bombshell (her younger self), and that’s a heart breaker, save the world or not.

This offbeat tale is about falling madly in love when one is too cynical for such things, letting go of pessimism when it’s the last life jacket on a sinking ship, and racing against the clock when one doesn’t have the proper footwear. It’s a coming-of-age story for old fogeys, a how-to-make-love guide for diehard celibates, and a laugh-out-loud tragedy with a hopeful twist.

Review:

Setting

Given this book is about time traveling, there’s multiple types of settings in this book. The prologue caught my attention with it’s post apocalyptic feel and King of the Walmart scene.  The POV is first person and switches with each chapter (though, there was consecutive chapters with the same POV). For the most part, there was enough detail in each scene for me to paint a visual picture of what was going on.

Characters

There are two main characters, Diego and Isabel. There’s also a character named Matt who is another POV. There were times I wasn’t quite fond of Diego and his thought process but for the most part I found the characters to be relatable. There is a slew of other characters who make appearances and there were a lot of them which made me laugh. There is quite a bit of humor and I love characters who can pun with one another (Diego and Isabel).

Plot

Maybe it’s my old age but I found some of the plot to be a bit confusing. Then again, we’re dealing with time travel. The first part of the book follows, primarily, Diego and Isabel and their love story which also has a lot of tragic bits. I mean, Isabel goes through a LOT. Like, can a girl catch a break, really?  With exception to the first few chapters, this is a fast paced book. It’s a bit of a wacky tale (certainly not a bad thing) and does have a solid mixture of funny and tragic.

Overall

This book is definitely for people who like their time travel with romance and crazy shenanigans going on.

May you get lost in a book,

Chrissy
