Genre: Girl don’t need no man but she gets one.
Basic Summary: Chloe is a serious young lady with serious goals of graduating college and wants to get into forensics. She don’t HAVE TIME FOR DATING NONSENSE. Until she does?
Rating: 3.5/5 (I rounded it up on GoodReads)
Warnings: There is mentions and a scene where a child gets shot. So, violence warning? It’s not graphic but just in case.
Review:
So, I admit, I haven’t read a lot of chic lit which is what this book falls into. I think the only other was Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell and ….is that considered chic lit? Well, Someone Else’s Fairytale is my first chic lit that is not nerdtastic.
I wasn’t sure what to expect. The main character is a severe sort who is strong willed and has her own dreams. She never dreamed about getting married and what a wedding would look like. Since I haven’t really read a lot of this genre, I’m not sure if that is different than usual? But, I liked it! Chloe, the main character, was her own person. She is unimpressed with famous people.
The main romance plot has a bit of a love triangle and you just know one of them turns into a jerk (and not even full jerk?). So, it’s not really much of a surprise when it happens.
Chloe, in this book, has a traumatic event happen to her in her past. I do wish the drama that this was centered around was more fleshed out. It was a bit rushed and pushed to the side, perhaps to make room for the romance. I think it gets touched upon in the sequels but not sure.
There are a few parts I found funny such as a scene with Jason (movie star) and Gigi (his costar) in a hotel.
Overall, it was an interesting introduction into chic lit. I’m going to have to read more!
