May Readathons: Asian Readathon, Medieval-A-Thon, and Read-a-thin

It may not be the wisest thing – getting into readathons when I’m just coming off a reading drought but I thought “What the heck. My FMLA is going to be ending near the end of May anyway.”

There are three readathons I’ll be participating in May: Asian Readathon, Medieval-A-Thon, and Read-a-thin. I may not hit all the challenges but I’m going to try my best.

ASIAN READATHON

Here you can find the announcement and more info.

Challenges

1) Read any book by an Asian author.

2) Read a book featuring an Asian character or written by an Asian author who you can relate to. Ex: If you’re an immigrant you can read about an immigrant character; if you’re a woman you can read a book by another woman; etc.

3) Read a book featuring an Asian character or written by an Asian author who is different from you. Ex: If you’re straight you can read about a queer character; if you’re Japanese you can read a book by a Vietnamese author; etc.

4) Read a book recommended by an Asian.

Books Reading For Challenges:

The Bride Test by Helen Hoang – This fits with all the challenges above. It’s a book by an Asian Author, the book features a character that is similar to me in that she’s a woman, and it has another character that is different from me in that he is on the autism spectrum, and I have seen this book recommended by quite a few Asian book bloggers and booktubers.

The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang – Asian Readathon is really just an excuse to bump this book up my TBR list.

MEDIEVAL-A-THON

This readathon is pretty unique in how sets up its challenges. I don’t want to lift their images to showcase their challenges so instead, I’ll just list the books I’m going to read and what prompts they’ll fit. (There are a lot of prompts and challenges. You can check them out here.)

Kraken by China Miéville – This fits with a wardrobe prompt of a book with my favorite color on the spine. The color is blue. <3 A dark deep blue.

Emperor Mollusk Versus The Sinister Brain by A. Lee Martinez – This fits with a shield prompt of a book that I have high expectations for. I’m a big fan of A. Lee Martinez so it’s natural for me to expect I’ll like this book.

The Poppy War by R. F. Kuang – This fits with the fox animal companion prompt of an orange cover.

READ-A-THIN

Here is where you can find more information about the readathon.

Challenges

  1. Read a fantasy that takes place in a made up world.
  2. Read a book with a character who escapes.
  3. Read a contemporary that takes place in a country other than your own.
  4. Read a book that has been stranded on your TBR the longest.
  5. Read a book chosen by someone else.

Books Reading for the Challenges:

The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang – This book is saving me when it comes to challenges. It fits the prompt for 1.

The Little Old Lady Who Broke All the Rules by Catharina Ingelman-Sundberg – This fits prompt 2 as the book features a little old lady who is trying to escape a nursing home. I’m hoping she makes it.

The Glass God by Kate Griffin – This first prompts 3 and 4. It takes place in England and it has been on my TBR for years.

As for prompt 5, I’m going to try and read the books I’ve picked first and if I manage to do that, I’ll put up a twitter poll to see what book I should read for this prompt.

Who else is joining these readathons? What books are you reading?

May you get lost in a book,

Chrissy

  1. Good luck with your TBR! Medieval-a-thon sounds like so much fun. I hope you like The Poppy War! I’ve been thinking of rereading it because it just wasn’t what I was expecting the first time and I got kind of thrown for a loop. But I did really enjoy it. Also yay for The Bride Test! I loved that book.
